TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor, a type of LCD flat-panel display screen, in which each pixel is controlled by a range of one to four transistors. TFT screens are sometimes called active-matrix LCDs in contrast to passive-matrix LCDs, which are direct-driven with a limited number of segments.
TFTs are made from a thin film of amorphous silicon that is deposited on a glass panel. Transistors take up only a small fraction of each pixel area, and the rest of the silicon film is etched away to allow light to pass through it quickly.
Sometimes, we came to some project where we need a complicated size of TFT that only fit the specific size and dimension. In this scenario, we need to make the custom size display.
There are a lot parameters to consider when one goes for customizing a new design, such as:
1. Size and Dimension: Need to fix the size of the display as per the project. Usually we need to find the length and width and then by finding the diagonal length we can determine the size of the LCD. Suppose we need a LCD width: 10 inch and Length: 12.5 inch. So, if we calculate the diagonal length of this rectangle we get 16.02 inch. So, we can tell, our LCD size is, 16 inch , dimension is W: 10 inch and L: 12.5 inch.
2. Resolution: This is a vital part. We need to find the exact and appropriate resolution for our display. If it's a high end product like aircraft navigation we need the highest quality possible cause as high it is as much good picture you will get in return.
3. Structure: We need to determine in which structure we need our LCD. If it's normal silicon based or we want something modern like IGZO-silicon based.
4. LCD Type: There are two types of basic LCD, TN and IPS. If we have a low budget and small appliance we could go for TN but if it's something more critical we should go for IPS for better viewing and better quality.
5. Interface: There are many types of interface out there and we need to find the best interface to suit with our driver board. It may RGB, TTL, LVDS, MIPI or MDDI
6. Connection type: There are basically two types of connector. Soldiering or connector
7. Touch: There are basically two types of touch screen available. Transmissive or capacitive. Based on your requirements and usage we should select the touch type if we need them in our display.
Without these basic there are many factors like- Contrast ratio, color gamut, FPC, Shape of the display, sunlight readability, temperature capability, backlight quality, brightness and uniformity, thickness of glass, sensor type, touch interface, frame material, life time etc.
These are the most common customization. If you can't find what you are looking for, don't hesitate to contact us. Let our Display Engineers guide you through the customization process.
